This book is the result of a collaboration between a human editor and an artificial intelligence algorithm to create a machine-generated literature overview of research articles analyzing the mediating role of social media on the psychological wellbeing of youth. It¿s a new publication format in which state-of-the-art computer algorithms are applied to select the most relevant articles published in Springer Nature journals and create machine-generated literature reviews by arranging the selected articles in a topical order and creating short summaries of these articles. In this volume, a human counsellor psychologist used the algorithm to explore articles that present results of research about the impacts of social media on the psychological wellbeing of youth. The Internet has always been popular among youth, but during the pandemic it has attracted even more attention since many aspects of life further migrated to the digital world, thus adding substantially to Internet¿sever-increasing popularity. Today, youth spend a majority portion of their time on the Internet and an increasing amount on social media. In such digitally dependent times, this book attempts to provide insights on the positive and negative impact of the Internet and social media on youth mental health, and also provides specific observations on personality traits.

It highlights the rise in online therapy and social media and examines the ethical dilemmas involved in online research to suggest that the benefits created far outweigh the possible risks. This expanded and updated second edition, includes practical suggestions for clinicians and public, builds upon the first by updating readers on recent developments in technology and research in this area since 2015. It explores ways in which governments and practitioners responded to the mental health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and looks at the challenges as well as the benefits of our increasing interaction online.
This book presents descriptions of interventions, results of empirical research, and theoretical contributions developed by Latine/x psychologists based on affirmative approaches aimed at promoting acceptance and understanding of LGBTIQ+ people. Contributions in this volume bring together the work of Latine/x scholars, practitioners, and activists across five Latin American countries or territories (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Puerto Rico) and in the United States, in an effort to provide multicultural perspectives to LGBTIQ+ affirmative psychological interventions that highlight local, regional and national particularities. Chapters in this volume go beyond contributions made by applied psychology fields (e.g., clinical and counselling psychology), where affirmative orientations are predominantly located, and include contributions from other fields of psychological research such as social and community psychology. The book is divided in two parts. Chapters in the first part focus on the experiences of trans and gender non-conforming people, with emphasis on contemporary systemic issues that affect gender identity among Latine/x communities and those who do not conform to hegemonic narratives about gender. Chapters in the second part focus on sexual identity among Latine/x LGBTIQ+ people and their families and communities. Contributions in this part present discussions about sexual orientation (grouped in LG/LGB identities), sex and gender dissidence, and the inclusion of intersex.LGBTQ+ Affirmative Psychological Interventions: A Latine/x Perspective will be of interest to both researchers and practitioners in different fields of psychology ¿ such as clinical, counselling, social, and community psychology ¿ interested in a multicultural perspective to understand and develop LGBTQ+ affirmative actions to fight against the repathologization of individuals, groups, families and diverse communities.

This book addresses increasing concerns regarding the relationship between social capital and disaster, highlighting conceptual definitions related to social capital and disaster, family, community, vulnerability, disaster experience, and preparedness. Focusing on a contemporary case of disaster management in Malaysia, the authors explore and establish linkages between the level of social capital and disaster preparedness among the indigenous Orang Asli people. Taking the case of the Orang Asli families as a point of departure, the book presents solutions for mobilizing social capital for disaster preparedness through multi-stakeholder involvement, promoting participation in awareness programs, ensuring indigenous people¿s access to resources, and proposing a prioritization of local values and culture in enabling proper planning and coordination for more disaster-resilient communities in Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and beyond. The book is broadly relevant to cases in similar economicsettings where indigenous people are lagging behind in disaster preparedness. An excellent resource for sociologists, this pioneering book collates various concepts and theories relating to social and ecological networks and systems, family resilience, and stress and coping mechanisms. It is relevant to researchers focused on disasters in developing countries, globally, particularly those focused on indigenous communities.
"This two-volume handbook presents the contemporary cognitive behavioral scholarship that defines the field today. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a psychological treatment that focuses on shifting unhelpful thinking or behavior patterns to more adaptive thinking or behavior patterns. An extensive body of empirical research confirms that CBT is highly efficacious in treating depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Edited by renowned CBT scholar and practitioner Amy Wenzel, this handbook includes a comprehensive examination of contemporary CBT. Volume 1 provides a historical and theoretical overview of CBT, summarizes the empirical support for the approach, describes the main strategies and techniques, and summarizes an array of CBT treatment packages. Volume 2 evaluates the application of CBT to specific clinical conditions, modalities and settings, and diverse populations. With its in-depth coverage, up-to-date research, and rich clinical examples, this handbook is an invaluable resource for all clinicians who offer CBT"--

The book examines the lived experiences of systemic family therapy educators. It addresses the issues of power and justice that they face in family therapy training programs, including their teaching experiences with students, interactions with faculty, and challenges within academic institutions. It describes how family therapy programs attempt to incorporate cultural awareness with mixed results (e.g., focusing only on how to work with diverse clients or not supporting faculty from across social locations). The book explores the ways in which family therapy educators with intersecting marginalized identities continue to be oppressed across different areas of academia. The book addresses issues of power that systemic family therapy educators face within the academia itself at three different levels:Personal interactions with students that create more complete understanding of issues of power.Professional interactions with colleagues that provide support and accountability.Political interventions aimed at changing the larger academic institution.Chapters focus on countering unjust practices in academic settings. Authors reflect on personal experiences across these three levels and, then, offer concrete suggestions for intervention. These include teaching experiences or meaningful interactions with students that support empowerment or increased awareness; relationships with colleagues that promote accountability and growth; and needed changes or challenges to the larger structure of academia.Social Justice and Systemic Family Therapy Training is an essential resource for clinicians, therapists, and practitioners as well as researchers, professors, and graduate students in family studies, clinical psychology, and public health as well as all interrelated disciplines.

The healing effects of the forest in integrative therapy are the focus of this book. Special emphasis is placed on teaching active forest life exercises that can be used in therapeutic practice in individual and group settings. In addition, the application as a prescription in the context of therapeutic interventions is demonstrated and the importance of increasing the inclusion of forest life in the case history is clarified. The attitude of complex mindfulness and lived integrative ecopsychosomatics open up possibilities of a care for the world in a time of alienation from nature with a simultaneous longing for nature; the commitment to the preservation of nature strengthens an experience of solidarity and is at the same time effective self-care.

Serving in the military is often a disruptive event in the lives of those who join, precipitating a reassessment of the service member¿s ethical sensibilities or, tragically, resulting in lasting moral injury and trauma. The military experience compels them to navigate multiple identities, from citizen to warrior and back. Their religious identity, sometimes rooted in a civilian religious community, can be altered by military participation. Through a series of inductive, in-depth qualitative interviews, Suitt explores how varied religious resources and potentially traumatic events affect the lives of post-9/11 veterans who once or currently identified as Christian. Adding to existing research on moral injury, it traces how military chaplains, ethics education, just war theory rhetoric, and formal religious practice supplied by the military alter the course of service members¿ moral lives. These narrative trajectories reveal how veterans use Christian faith or other systems of meaning-making to understand war and their identities as service members and veterans.

Using a process-based approach to personalize CBT for better successPresents a unique dynamic approach to CBTShows how to implement this approachProvides downloadable toolsThe process-based approach to cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a unique method for understanding psychological problems as complex networks of interacting processes. It allows therapists to grasp the individuality, complexity, and dynamics of psychological disorders - things that often get missed in diagnosis-oriented approaches. The authors, both experienced researchers and practitioners of this method, explore how understanding these complex networks enables therapists using CBT to focus on the core processes responsible for a person's suffering.First, the reader is shown how emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and somatic processes interact in maintaining maladaptive states and how this approach identifies the points at which therapeutic interventions can be applied to achieve maximum leverage. This is followed by guidance on implementing the approach in practice, including addressing diagnostic issues, to create an individual process-based model network for selecting the right evidence-based interventions. The process-based approach forms a connecting foundation that combines classical CBT with third-wave approaches (acceptance commitment therapy, schema therapy) and integrates helpful recent developments in psychotherapy research, such as evolutionary theories. Practitioners will find the downloadable tools in the appendix invaluable for their clinical practice. This book is of interest to clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, mental health practitioners, students, and trainees.
