Despite all the support they give to others, pastors are in dire need of relational support themselves. 70% of pastors do not have a single close friend and 40% have considered leaving ministry. Church planters are especially impacted. When the initial startup is over and they lose much of their support in years 4-9 of the plant, they report experiencing high levels of emptiness, loneliness, and burnout.Based on biblical principles and research from the United States and Canada, Supply Lines identifies five types of relational support that pastors and planters need: spiritual, inspirational, motivational, interpersonal, and practical. The book builds a theology of support, addresses the misunderstandings that hold leaders back from relational support, and explores each of these Supply Lines in detail. This book teaches pastors and church planters to set up and strengthen a support plan for themselves, and it also teaches coaches and movement leaders how to set up healthy support systems for others. With strong Supply Lines, you can be protected from burnout and have the support you need for bigger dreams, wiser decisions, and healthier results.
There are two sides to every coin. There usually are two sides to every story or differing exchange of ideas. Coin of Brokenness tells a story of brokenness, but it also points to the steps to healing. The before and after of brokenness is not always pretty, but there is a choice that will begin the healing process to a new sense of wholeness. Brokenness does not need to be a final chapter in your life's story. It can be the stepping stone to a whole new awareness of God and the power He enables to overcome the components of brokenness that every human being has encountered. God wants to rewrite your broken story to a whole new experience of grace. Embrace Him, and He will give you the positive side in place of the negative side to your Coin of Brokenness.
Historically, the term "catechism" did not refer to a particular type of book but to a collection of traditional formulations of the basic teachings of the Christian faith. At the time of the Reformation, Martin Luther's concern for the spiritual wellbeing of the laity prompted him to reorganize that material with a new sequence: first the law as summarized by the Ten Commandments, then the gospel as summarized by the Apostles' Creed, and finally discipleship as summarized by the Lord's Prayer and the biblical passages pertaining to Holy Baptism, confession, and the Sacrament of the Altar. His accompanying explanations constitute the Small and Large Catechisms, presenting each part "as the housefather should teach it in a simple way to his household." This resource facilitates such usage by arranging Luther's texts in parallel as a six-month daily devotional, with each pair of readings accompanied by a few questions for reflection and a brief prayer.
Dr. Eddie Hyatt presents a compelling argument from Scripture, history, and his own personal experience that God calls women to serve as pastors and other leadership roles n the church. He addresses the church's obsession with "authority" and shows how it is at odds with Jesus and the New Testament. He addresses the two passages commonly used to limit women, I Timothy 2:11-12 and I Corinthians 14:34-35, and shows how, when placed in their historical context, it becomes clear that Paul was not placing restrictions on all women everywhere. He also discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in the calling and gifting of women.
The Christmas story is God's way of telling us that we are loved radically and unconditionally by him, and this is how we are to be defined as people, the people of God, the people who belong to God, the people of God. Such love by its very nature is intimate, revealed in the birth of a child who was born in a stable and laid in a manger, whilst at the same time sharing our flesh and blood. Why do we find this so difficult to believe? Perhaps, it is because that, deep down, we see ourselves as being unattractive and undesirable. Yet time and time again, throughout the Gospels, we discover a God who, through His Son, seeks out the rejected, despised, unwanted and unloved and assures them of one thing, God's unconditional love. This book invites the reader, therefore, to simply spend time with the word of God during the seasons of Advent and Christmas. In this way, a treasure might well be discovered that God is, in fact, closer to us than we could ever imagine and loves us more than we could ever know. In his writings Deacon Sean has sought to help spread the Gospel to the world at large, encouraging the reader to not only read about the faith but to go out, and live it as well, through practical language, and simple faith.Father Andrew FranklinParish Priest Our Lady of the Wayside

So often, we are told that legacy is measured in terms of material success-winning, acclaim, trophies, wealth, or personal happiness and satisfaction. In "The Legacy of Leadership," however, Coach Tom Osborne discusses how leading with the end in mind is the only way to leave a legacy that truly matters. Through personal stories and teachings, Coach Osborne shares the foundational actions (accountability, priorities, and strategy) and foundational values (values and vision, love, integrity, humility, patience, self-control, and loyalty) that lead to impactful outflow (serving, mentoring, and empowerment) and impactful outcomes (confidence, unity, perseverance, excellence, transformation, and success). "The Legacy of Leadership" also includes topical stories from some of the people that know Coach Osborne best (Trev Alberts, Turner Gill, Frank Solich, Ron Brown and Jim Pillen, e.g.) to highlight how he has lived these principles out as a coach, congressman, athletic director, mentor, family man, and follower of Christ. Most importantly, this book will help you better understand that the true legacy of leadership is not about you. It's about honoring God through your leadership and serving those that you lead. Tom Osborne is a renowned college football coach, respected politician, and accomplished athletic administrator. From 1973 to 1997, he served as head coach at the University of Nebraska, leading the teams to unprecedented success. Under his guidance, the Cornhuskers claimed three national championships and 13 conference titles. Beyond football, Osborne co-founded the non-profit TeamMates Mentoring program with his wife Nancy in 1991. In 2000, he ventured into public service and was elected to the United States House of Representatives. Osborne also served as Nebraska's Athletic Director from 2007 to 2013. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999.
This famous bishop of Lyon, St. Eucherius, sought to counter some of the extremity of his own time, both in terms of the lawlessness which was becoming rampant in southern Gaul, as well as the punitive self-denial pushed by some monastic groups. This work, originally titled in Latin formularum spiritalis intelligentiae, intends to offer some directive for initiates into the Christian life. In this way he is a forerunner to St. Ignatius and his own work the Spiritual Exercises. St. Eucherius also uses this work to emphasis the allegorical value of the Greek and Hebrew scriptures, and expands them for potential mystical interpretation.

While the specifics of these canons are unlikely to have been from the hand of St. Patrick, they are attributed to him. They also grant insight into some of the early issues that the Irish church was facing in the century after the death of Patrick. Full communion with Rome had yet to be achieved, and the standardization of church policies needed to be addressed. This is a document that stands as a landmark text to the Irish church and the growth of Christianity in Ireland and Scotland.
