Deacon Frank Enderle, former Executive Director of the Permanent Diaconate in the Archdiocese of Washington and former Director of Clergy Formation in the Diocese of Sacramento, began writing and publishing homilies in Spanish on the Internet in 2000. This book is the second in the Homilias/Homilies Domingo/Sunday Ciclo/Cycle B series. It contains Spanish homilies with English translations. It is published specifically for those who preach who prefer to read the homilies in book format rather than on the Internet. The difference between this bilingual book and others is that these homilies were originally written in Spanish and translated into English, not vice-versa, as in other books. We hope that these books will be useful to native Spanish speakers who preach as well as to native English speakers who find they must preach in Spanish.
This book contains Fifty-seven Spanish homily reflections based on the Roman Catholic Lectionary readings. This is the third book of homilies written by this author for liturgical year B. Each one page Spanish homily reflection is printed on the left page with the exact English translation printed on the right page. The homilies contained in the Homilías/Homilies series of books were written in Spanish and translated into English - not vice versa as is often times done on other books of this type. They were written especially for those who have little time to prepare their own homilies or who have difficulties in preparing them. They are also a perfect gift for recently ordained deacons and priests. They may be read as is or used as reflections in the preparation of homilies. They are also useful for prayer groups who meditate on the Sunday Readings during their meetings.
How Can We Know What the Church Is Supposed to Do?Jesus commissioned the local church to carry out a mission. Yet local churches often disagree over exactly what Jesus commanded them to do, leading them to align their mission with current political or economic trends. So what does the Bible have to say?In this short book, Jonathan Leeman argues from Scripture that the mission of the church is first and foremost to make disciples-the task that each local assembly is called to do collectively-and to be disciples-the task for each individual Christian. He equips readers to obey this disciple-making mission both inside and outside the local church as they seek to follow Christ's call and make God's glory known in all the world.
This booklet gives readers the biblical basis and practical tips for sharing the gospel with those who aren't Christians, demonstrating how evangelism is doable for all believers, even those who feel like they aren't particularly gifted in evangelism.
What makes for good preaching? In this accessible Hausa-language volume-written for preachers and preachers in training-pastor David Helm outlines what must be believed and accomplished to become a faithful expositor of God's Word. In addition to offering practical, step-by-step guidance for preachers, this short book will equip all of us to recognize good preaching when we hear it.
Could God raise up a man today, as He did in the days of Noah, to warn the world that the Wrath of God is soon going to come upon the Earth? Is the end now coming? Is this the end of the world as we currently know it? Is World War III at our doorstep? Has it already started? In a world full of lies and propaganda, could God call a man to be a voice of truth for Him in these last days; a prophet that is actually hearing from God? That has actually seen Jesus?Does God still do signs, wonders, and miracles? Can people still receive visions from God today, as they have in the past? Is there really a place called heaven and a place called hell? Could there be men and women on the Earth today who are called Watchmen; who are telling you the truth-that Jesus' return is imminent? Is the Shroud of Turin really the burial cloth of Jesus Christ? Are there people trying to create a New World Order-a one world government? Does the Lord have a plan in place to rescue you and your loved ones before all hell breaks out on the Earth? The answer to all of these questions is "yes." Inside this cover, you'll encounter the God Who Still Speaks; who has urgent messages for you in these last days. After reading this book, you'll experience Jesus, and you'll never be the same!
A Little Guy's Rocket Ride to God takes readers on the childhood adventure of Douglas, the author. Douglas is a native Texan, the youngest of four brothers, raised with his siblings in Bellaire, Texas, a small city nestled within the city limits of Houston, Texas. He and his wife currently reside in Houston with their two spoiled Hungarian Vizslas. Even at a very young age, Douglas knew that the rocket ride he experienced while living in Bellaire was God's message to him, teaching him that there was nothing to fear in life. When Douglas was only 16, his father died, and at 17, his mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given four months to live. He would later remember God's message while supporting his mother through her long journey and, ultimately, her transition into God's loving arms. He had to grow up fast, focusing heavily on his scholastics, which led to him obtaining both undergraduate and graduate degrees while caring for his mother. Since his life-changing rocket ride, Douglas still attempts to do three nice things per day, and he hopes that his journey will inspire readers, young and old, to continue to do good every day. Profits from this book will be donated to Christian outreach organizations in Texas.
Feelings are complicated and fickle, yet they often reveal what you really want or think. When you don't feel like going to church, something much deeper may be going on that must be addressed by God's Spirit, through his word. Gunner Gundersen diagnoses the human heart and offers biblical insight on the importance of being involved in the local church¿even when you don't feel like it.
Does what a church believes about how people become Christians change how we do evangelism? In this concise book, Michael Lawrence explains the doctrine of conversion and helps us consider the relationship between what we believe about how people are saved and our approach to sharing the gospel in the context of the local church. Readers of this book will understand how the local church should participate in the conversion process through ordinary means, such as biblical preaching and intentional relationships.
What Is the Role of Corporate Worship in the Church?Christians worship God at church every week, but many don't know exactly what worship is or why they do it. For some, it's a warm-up for the sermon. For others, it's a "me-and-Jesus" moment. What is the biblically informed way to view corporate worship? In this book, Matt Merker shows that corporate worship is the gathering of God's people by his grace, for his glory, for their good, and before a watching world. He offers biblical insights and practical suggestions for making worship what it truly is meant to be: a foretaste of God's people worshiping together for eternity in the new creation.
Entrepreneurs may feel called to grow whatever catches their interest, including churches. But Pastors are not called to be entrepreneurs. Pastors are not called to grow the church. Pastors are called to grow the people. The kingdom of darkness rejoices when we turn our focus to anything that competes with Christ for our attention. Anything, no matter how important man thinks it is, that competes with Christ for our focus is clearly inferior and not what we have been called to lift up.A Pastor's focus is and always truly must be on Christ.
The Canadian Presbyterian Mission had a consuming passion to develop a skilled-native East Indian Church in British Guiana. Higher education goals thus became a foundation to its policy. With the establishment of institutions for training its workers, there was great hope for success. To attain its objectives, the Mission needed a competent staff and sufficient students. Financial and other factors impeded progress. When the Indian Church finally emerged in 1945, the results were satisfactory, despite the herculean efforts of missionaries and local leaders. Rev. Dr. Simon D. Mangru is pastor of the North Miami Beach Church of the Nazarene. He earned an MA (History) at the University of Guyana, an MS (TESOL) at Florida International University, and a PhD (Church History) from the International University. He was a lecturer at the University of Guyana and an Adjunct Professor at MDC. Simon and his wife, Ruth, have been married for 56 years. They have a daughter, Karen- husband, Santos & son Gabriel; their son, Ted, was promoted to heaven in February 2022, leaving a rich legacy to the 3 children -Lisa, Jonathan, & David.
Opportunities of UrbanizationRapid urbanization and globalization have transformed our world. With over half of the world's population residing in cities, the implications for mission work in urban contexts are significant. Reaching the City: Reflections on Urban Mission for the 21st Century addresses the missiological challenges associated with this new world order. This collection of essays features authors who build upon the seminal writings of Ray Bakke, Jacques Ellul, Basil of Caesarea, and others while providing new and creative proposals for urban mission. The book first explores the global challenges of urbanization and then moves through theological, historical, and educational perspectives. The volume concludes with case studies that engage with the realities of North American and international cities, offering inspiration for missional efforts to reach these communities. With the United Nations reporting that the number of urban dwellers in Asia and Africa is increasing by an average of one million per week, this book is particularly relevant. The authors recognize the urgent need to address the missiological challenges of urbanization and offer thoughtful and practical suggestions for how mission work can effectively engage with these communities. Reaching the City is an essential resource for anyone interested in urban mission and mission work in general.
Living in Shalom as a MissionaryServing Jesus with Integrity delves into the complex and often perplexing ethical issues that confront evangelical missionaries and mission agencies. While personal morality is certainly a concern, the scope of ethical engagement in evangelical mission extends far beyond the avoidance of compromising sexual situations and financial impropriety. The issues surrounding ethics in missionary work are often multifaceted, overlapping, and uncertain, and the book acknowledges the seductive attractions that accompany discussions about such issues. The contributors raise thought-provoking questions about how to talk about others' beliefs and practices, how to represent oneself to others, the role of tolerance for ambiguity in mental preparation, how to structure accountability in intercultural partnerships, and how to foster organizational justice in mission institutions. The book also addresses the role of care for creation in mission, the importance of a code of ethics for missionary practice, and what integrity in short-term mission outreach looks like.Drawing on Christian principles and the belief that all people are limited and fallible, this compendium provides guidance and admonition, along with deep reflection on the conduct of evangelical mission, so that missionaries can serve Jesus with true integrity. By grappling with these challenging ethical issues, Serving Jesus with Integrity is a valuable resource for those engaged in missionary work, and for anyone interested in exploring the complex interplay between ethics, faith, and cross-cultural engagement.
?Reaching To? and ?Reaching Through? People on the MoveMissions from the Majority World showcases the growing involvement of non-Western churches and missionaries in global missions. The chapters draw insights from 14 majority world mission scholars and 10 Westerners with extensive experience in missions, providing a comprehensive view of the changing landscape of global missions. Part one features four chapters that cover broad aspects of missions from the majority world. Parts 2-4 consist of seven chapters focusing on Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Part five features three chapters covering topics such as the use of narrative in missions movements from the majority world. The final section includes three case studies that demonstrate the progress and challenges of missions from the majority world. The book is an essential read for anyone interested in understanding the current state of missionary work in majority world countries. The case studies provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by Christian missionaries in these contexts and the innovative ways in which they are engaging the mission task.
The Church Is Everywhere to EveryoneReflecting God's Glory Together is a compelling book that sheds light on the diversity and richness of the global mission landscape. It challenges the common misconception that missions is dominated by a small slice of humanity who shares certain demographic, economic, educational, and gender characteristics. Through a collection of case studies, personal perspectives, and social science perspectives, the book paints a composite sketch of the mosaic reality of mission today. The contributors analyze numerous ways diversity impacts mission, from the engagement of global immigrants to North America to the role of generational diversity in mobilizing efforts. They also delve into the challenges of diversity in teams, exploring how leadership, partnership, and member care need to be rethought in multicultural settings. The book is also a reminder of the biblical call to Christian unity. The chapters examine how agencies and institutions can grow in diversity and how to balance the reality of ethnic diversity with the call for unity. They also explore the missional challenges for minority populations who face marginalization as part of their heritage. Read Reflecting God's Glory Togethers if you want to be encouraged to appreciate diversity in mission and engage in God's ongoing redemptive story.
