«Mount Athos, for over a thousand years a centre for monasticism, has attracted pilgrims for nearly as long. This fascinating collection of essays discusses pilgrimage, the pilgrims, and the monks themselves. The Athonite ban on females has not precluded essays by women, testifying to the Holy Mountain¿s appeal, transcending geography.»(Fr Andrew Louth)Mount Athos is the chief centre of pilgrimage for Eastern Orthodox Christians. As the spiritual hub of the Orthodox world it is also home to more than two thousand monks. Each of its twenty monasteries welcomes thousands of pilgrims every year to venerate its holy icons, to make their confessions, and to listen to the wisdom of its elders. This book delves into the nature of pilgrimage, for both Western and Eastern Christians. It describes the pilgrim experience both from the standpoint of the visiting pilgrim (be it men to the Athonite monasteries or women to their daughter houses elsewhere) and from that of the receiving monk. What is it like to live the life of a monk or nun for a few precious days? And what is it like for the monks (and nuns) to receive literally thousands of pilgrims every year? And are they true pilgrims or are they really tourists? What is so special about Athos? This book will answer these questions.

Pope Francis once again addresses the world with an urgent appeal for climate protection: In "Laudate Deum", the follow-up letter to "Laudato si", he calls for rapid measures against global warming and speaks out against climate change denial. Over time, Francis has realized that we are not reacting sufficiently while the world that surrounds us is crumbling and perhaps facing a deep turning point. He posits lasting damage to the oceans as "one of the many signs that the other creatures of this world have stopped being our companions along the way and have become instead our victims", feeding the "technocratic paradigm" which he described in Laudato si'.In the letter, which is around 8,000 words long, the Pope argues mostly in scientific, political and economic terms. Pope Francis is clear that we all have a role to play, pressurising the sources of power and demanding change. He calls us all to be involved and particularly urges that COP28, the next round of important UN negotiations on climate change, needs to be a historic event, with binding forms of energy transition. For the sake of the future of our children we must take action.

The Kid Chronicles is an anthology of short stories embedded in a novel. I wrote the book this way for a few reasons. First, I incorporated the short stories to entertain the reader while highlighting social issues. Each short story teaches a lesson that is relevant to the life of a pre-teen and teenager living in an urban area.     Secondly, the main story is aimed to heal mother-son relationships that have been fractured by the stress and strain of the son's misbehavior at school. Some urban schools are plagued with behavior problems that interfere with the learning process, and many educators and parents struggle with finding ways to address undesirable behavioral patterns at school.      The main story shows how a mother and son can maintain a healthy relationship or recharge the relationship after a setback. Mothers learn to support boys in making healthy choices at school.      Lastly, the short stories and the main story have content reflective of situations that many young people face, such as: coping after a tragedy, handling conflict with a classmate, managing grief, developing self-control and controlling impulsivity.       The book is full of violent situations, so it is imperative that parents or adults read the book before allowing young readers to read the book. Hopefully, the interaction between the mothers and sons will start healthy conversations that will bring healing and understanding.

And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2:47 NIV) Every church was meant to grow. Is yours growing? When a local church is a unified, biblically functioning church, tuned in to the power of the Holy Spirit, culturally relevant, exercising church growth principles and practices, and led by spiritually mature, gifted, God-honoring leaders and pastors, it has the potential of being a perpetually growing church.Rick Howerton has spent his adult life networking with, consulting, and learning from influential church leaders whose churches experienced numeric growth for ten years or more. Salt and Light: America's Greatest Need is written to share with God's children the urgency of being all that He needs us to be in the day in which we live. Our nation is divided and awash in sin and immorality. It would be easy to blame the politicians and the evildoers for the state of our world today. However, God's Word makes it clear that it is His children who are responsible for the chaos holding us in its grip. Our lives can and should make a difference. God has promised to hear our prayers and heal our land if we humble ourselves before Him, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. We have the power to make a difference and bring healing to our sin-sick world. I pray that this book will encourage you to do just that.
