This book offers a comprehensive approach to the assessment of fire hazards of electrical cables. The first part of the book describes division of cables, main parameters of electrical cables, and fault scenarios of cables leading to fire or occupant injuries. The traditional approach to fire hazards of electrical cables assessment is also described in the first part. The second part of the book is focused on the creation and description of a new approach to fire hazard assessment of electrical cables. The new approach is based on the assessment of both ignition parameters of electrical cables and the impact of their fires on the surrounding area. The ignition parameters include critical heat flux, ignition temperature, and critical electrical current. The impact of cable fires on the surrounding area is expressed by the released heat, toxicity of combustion products (determined by the amount of released carbon oxides and oxygen consumed), and visibility (determined by the smoke extinction area). Newly created approach is practically illustrated on specific types of cables (power cables classified to B2ca and Fca reaction to fire class) in this book. The book is intended mainly for academics in the fields of both fire protection engineering and electrical engineering. Besides that, the professionals in fire safety will find valuable information concerning impact of electrical cables on the safety of occupants and structures during fire in the book. In addition, the book sheds light on the issue of fire safety of electrical cables for the professionals in both electrical and power engineering. Last but not least, the book is appropriate also for students in the fields of fire, electrical, and power engineering in bachelor, master, and Ph.D. degree.
This book comprises selected papers on advances in the field of health and environment safety that were presented at the International Conference on Advances in the field of Health, Safety, Fire, Environment, Allied sciences and engineering (HSFEA 2020). This book presents a number of research papers which focuses on basic concept of sustainable development and its role in modern world for clean development technology. The book also presents methods that can be used to effectively monitor and measure climate change and global warming. Further, the contents of this work stress the importance of maintaining safety and healthy work environments that are free of occupational health hazards. This book will be of interest to researchers, professionals, and policy makers alike.
This book addresses the analysis and design of structures under fire loads. Fire-Resistant Design of Structures includes discussions related to the estimate of fire loads, analysis and design of structural members under fire, fire-protection and fire-fighting systems, working principles, and suitability for industrial applications.
This book presents the results of a novel investigation into building deterioration and defects in Malaysia's public schools. It sets forth an in-depth theoretical and empirical underpinning the maintenance management of public schools with the view to develop a building deterioration prediction model of building condition based on factors contributing to building defects for school buildings. The approach adopted is mixed method encompassing archived documentation, questionnaire survey and interview of sampled schools in Malaysia. It presents a number of useful tables, graphs and statistical analysis which are useful in understanding the factors contributing to building defects under reference. The prediction model assists the decision making of maintenance management to be more efficient with comprehensive budgeting as well as optimal maintenance and repair work. The book is of relevance to school managers, maintenance management practitioners and academics towards measuring and improving the building condition in schools.
This systematically sets out useful engineering equations and computational models for analysing large outdoor fire dynamics, and presents practical approaches to risk assessment. It details the items needed for analysing risks and for designing plans to improve resilience in the built environment - for professionals and graduate students.

Refractory engineering deals with the planning, design, calculation, construction and dismantling of systems that must maintain their shape and stability at very high temperatures (up to 2,000 °C). Skilled craftsmanship is required to ensure best possible maintenance, repair and modifications. Furthermore, these systems must have superb resistance to process-related physical and chemical attack. In the completely revised 3rd edition of the specialist book "Refractory Engineering" the authors focus extensively on the criteria for selecting the best suited refractories and connected proper design and construction methods for their installation. Furnaces in the iron and steel, chemical, petrochemical, lime, cement, glass industries, power and refuse incineration plants are featured in detail.Colorful illustrations and design or construction examples taken from various industrial sectors provide detailed descriptions and explain the complex connections between design and application of the refractories.
