This book will serve as a ready reckoner of contemporary information regarding municipal solid waste landfill biomining, treatment of landfill leachate and heavy metals in a single platform. The academicians, researchers, and students at master's and doctoral levels will be able to understand the current trends in municipal solid waste landfill operations, which will help in augmenting their research. Construction of new landfills requires huge monetary investments, which can be avoided if old landfills were bio-mined for resources and the space can be re-used as new landfills. Landfill leachate is a hazardous waste which needs proper treatment that could generate value-added products such as clean energy and biofertilizers. In this book, each chapter would provide the background, methodology, and relevant calculations for sustaining landfill operations. Also, the case studies based on best practices in municipal solid waste landfilling are discussed in this book.

This contributed volume offers several cases in life cycle assessment (LCA) and implementation of circular economy principles across different industries. LCA is a tool which is utilized to measure the environmental footprints of various products from inception through disposal. Circular economy, a related concept, presents a meaningful alternative to a traditional linear economy as it seeks possible ways to reduce waste, recover resources at the end of a product¿s life, and channel them back into production, thus significantly reducing environmental impacts. LCA and CE complement each other, as the former can be used to meaningfully assess possibilities for the latter. The combination of the principles of CE and LCA enable product developers to quantify the environmental performance of various products, processes and supply chain configurations in order to make progress toward sustainability.

Reinvent Your Waste is a book about the history of waste, or garbage, and the progression of waste management and recycling in the United States, with some special emphasis on the state of Michigan. The book highlights four themes - respect, recover, reinvent, and restore, with each section offering insights and inspiration for those who want to be better stewards for Earth. In plain language, the author answers questions such as:¿ What is the growing waste doing to our natural ecosystems and to Earth's ancient systems?¿ Can the negative impact of waste somehow be reversed?¿ Is waste - particularly material solid waste and products- being properly valued and used?Every year, millions of tons of waste go to landfills across the country and are considered safely buried to decompose. Are there more innovative ways to recover waste and create greater value, economically speaking? This study hits on many topics, but all are aligned to handle waste in a more sustainable and steward-like way. The major theme of the book is to inspire all people in society to reinvent waste.

Managing solid waste is one of the biggest challenges in urban areas around the world. Technologically advanced economies generate vast amounts of organic waste materials, many of which are disposed of in landfills. In the future, efficient use of carbon-containing waste and all other waste materials must be increased to reduce the need for virgin raw materials acquisition, including biomass, and reduce carbon emissions to the atmosphere, mitigating climate change. Moreover, expeditious development in information and communications technology (ICT) has made the machines more powerful and efficient, but at the same time, there is a simultaneous decrease in product life leading to an extensive rise in the annual production of e-waste, or electronic waste. Considering the health hazards and environmental implications of e-waste, it has become a global problem that needs serious attention. The Handbook of Research on Safe Disposal Methods of Municipal Solid Wastes for a Sustainable Environment covers waste management principles and strategies in different fields and corresponding applications. The book also focuses on the waste management strategies for a sustainable environment that have emerged. Covering key topics such as waste, energy, and recycling, this premier reference source is an excellent resource for environmentalists, government officials, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.
