This PRINT REPLICA contains the FAA Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM) Basic with Changes 1,2 and 3, dated 28 February 2014 This is Book 2. This is a very useful reference book that is normally printed in a small format (6 by 9 inch) and can bedifficult to read. We decided to print this a full 8 1/2 by 11 inches so the text is much larger. It is a printreplica so the content is unchanged, only larger. However, there were two big changes in format which willhopefully make the book more useful. First of all, we broke it into two books. Book 1 contains Chapters 1thru 5, and Book 2 contains Chapters 6 thru 10. Some people won't need both books. The other change iswhere the explanation of changes is located. Normally, the Explanation of Changes is located at the verybeginning, but we doubt it gets much use, so we relocated that to the very back of Volume 2. We hope youfind this more useful than a small, thick book with small text. If so, please leave a positive review onAmazon.com. If you have any suggestions or would like to see this or any other book printed differently, please send us a message on our website USGOVPUB.com.

On December 8, 2014, an Embraer EMB-500 airplane (marketed as the Phenom 100), N100EQ, crashed while on approach to runway 14 at Montgomery County Airpark (GAI), Gaithersburg, Maryland. The airplane impacted three houses and the ground about 3/4 mile from the approach end of the runway. The pilot, the two passengers, and the three people in a nearby house died as a result of the accident. The airplane was destroyed by impact forces and postcrash fire. The NTSB determines that the probable cause of this accident was the pilot's conduct of an approach in structural icing conditions without turning on the airplane's wing and horizontal stabilizer deice system, leading to ice accumulation on those surfaces, and without using the appropriate landing performance speeds for the weather conditions and airplane weight, as indicated in the airplane's standard operating procedures, which together resulted in an aerodynamic stall at an altitude at which a recovery was not possible.

While common in the airline industry, Multi-Crew Cooperation is only now becoming better understood in the helicopter industry as larger and more sophisticated helicopters become available and high-intensity operations, including NVG and IFR, become increasingly common in the helicopter working environment. This book explains Crew Resource Management, Threat and Error Management and Multi-Crew Cooperation specific to the helicopter operating environment. "Multi-Crew Cooperation for Helicopter Pilots" is written by Captain Mike Becker, one of Australia's most experienced helicopter instructors. Mike Becker started flying in 1984. His career has been as diverse as the number of helicopter types he has flown - the smaller R22 to the larger B212 and Sikorski S62, and most types in between. He is experienced in a vast range of helicopter operations, including high altitude, remote area operations, mustering, firefighting, tourism, sling load operations, specialised long line operations, search and rescue, and Night Vision Goggles operations. He has been operating a helicopter flight school since 1995. As Chief Pilot and Chief Flight Instructor, Mike operated a fleet of over 20 helicopters and employed more than 30 instructors delivering over 10,000 training hours per year. With over 16,000 flight hours and the recipient of the "Captain John Ashton Award for Flight Standards and Aviation Safety" by the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators of London, Mike's experience provides invaluable insights and real hands-on knowledge. This theory book converts all this experience and those of his instructional staff into a practical, hands-on guide. "Multi-Crew Cooperation" teaches practical techniques to maximise safety margins, promote team coordination in the constantly changing environment of helicopter flight operations.

"For more than a century, pilots have been intrigued by the challenges of flight in the highest mountains and the deepest canyons on every continent. Mountain, canyon, and backcountry flying allows pilots to get off the beaten path and enjoy the outdoors. It opens up a whole new world of recreation. Activities include airplane camping, hiking, fishing, and staying at guest lodges or bush camps in areas where there may not be roads or easy access either by land or water. Flying in these enticing environments often entail operations over relatively inaccessible terrain, and necessitates a mindset, discipline, and procedures necessary to operate efficiently and safely in a challenging and sometimes unforgiving environment. Operating over mountains, navigating through canyons, taking off and landing on unimproved, high altitude airstrips in confined areas, and maximizing airplane performance requires specialized skills. The authors and guest writers share information and tips gleaned from more than 150 years and 100,000 hours of collective experience as professional mountain and backcountry pilots and flight instructors. Recreational pilots to mountain flying instructors will find this book useful. Fundamental concepts include preparing for and conducting mountain and canyon flights, airport operations, situational awareness and emergency operations. Analysis of accident scenarios, accounts from the authors' own experiences, and contributions from seasoned backcountry pilots and instructors expand on material detailed in the text. Each chapter includes exercises to help the reader understand and apply the information to their own flying and beautiful illustrations to inspire pilots to seek out these awe-inspiring destinations."--Provided by publisher.
