Veganism is a type of diet that can be adapted for any age and gender. Research has shown that going on a vegan diet can help lower cholesterol levels. It also helps the dieter avoid certain types of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and certain types of cancer. As always, you'll want to start out gradually by taking it step by step. Most diets fail when the person tries to do too much and expect too much too soon. The best way to get on the diet is to take baby steps to help the dieter adapt to this new lifestyle in the long run. Some of these steps include removing meat and any animal products one meal at a time. You can also avoid meat for certain meals of the day. Another step that you can take in your journey towards having a vegan lifestyle is to hang out with like minded people. Spend time with vegans in forums and especially in groups. This helps you learn and adapt best practices as well as share your thoughts and opinions with other vegans. Many people believe that vegans lack variety in their diet due to the absence of meat and dairy products. Nothing could be further from the truth. Having a vegan diet actually allows the person to experience a wider variety of food as he starts to try a wide array of fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds and pulses. These types of food are filled with micronutrients and fiber that are not present in meat and dairy products.

This is the story of my cancer diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and now, my recovery. It is also the story of a grassroots, community-based organization founded to raise money to fight cancer in 1999 as a tribute to a victim of cancer, a woman loved by her husband, family, and community. Both stories are personal and intertwined.
The Cancer Effect shares Claudia Bretzing's tender and ultimately triumphant journey to conquer third stage hormone receptor positive breast cancer. Her autobiography draws a grueling picture of the effects of cancer on her life, vividly describing how her life was turned upside down and inside out. From the shock of diagnosis in 2009, Claudia writes of her journey wading through treatment options, choosing a health care team, losing both breasts, the devastating exhaustion and illness of chemotherapy, and the frustration and terror of losing control over every aspect of her life. When her chemo treatments ended, Claudia discovered that cancer's effects were far more than physical and extended miles beyond her first vision of the journey. Cancer exacted a massive emotional, mental and spiritual price. She narrates how debilitating fear and addiction can be, how important the support of friends and family were to her survival, and how she learned to trust in God and her own body again."The Cancer Effect is more than about surviving cancer. It's about conquering the trials and fears we all eventually face," said Richard Dinsdale, MD. Claudia's heartfelt memoir is rich in detail and will bring tears, laughter, hope, courage and even joy as readers navigate with her the often bumpy cancer road. The Cancer Effect is an inspiring story of the celebration of life, love, family, self-discovery, and the power of faith and prayer.

Dr. Gerson (1881-1959), who developed the Gerson Therapy, explains how the treatment reactivates the body's healing mechanisms in chronic degenerative diseases. The book incorporates extensive explanation of the theory with scientific research and the exact practice of the therapy, as well as a presentation of fifty documented case histories. Extensive information on diet and nutrition is provided, as well as a full list of forbidden and permitted foods. At some point in our lives, many of us will face the crisis of an unexpected illness. For parents, the fear, anxiety and confusion resulting from a cancer diagnosis can be particularly devastating. When A Parent Has Cancer is a book for families written from the heart of experience. A mother, physician, and cancer survivor, Dr Wendy Harpham offers clear, direct, and sympathetic advice for parents challenged with the task of raising normal, healthy children while they struggle with a potentially life-threatening disease. Dr Harpham lays the groundwork of her book with specific plans for helping children through the upheaval of a parent's diagnosis and treatment, remission and recovery, and if necessary, confronting the possibility of death. She emphasises the importance of being honest with children about the gravity of the illness, while assuring them that their basic needs will always be met. Included is Becky and the Worry Cup, an illustrated children's book that tells the story of a seven-year-old girl's experiences with her mother's cancer.

A breakthrough guide for cancer patients on using the mind to treat the body, from a pioneer in complementary medicine Recent research has shown that the mind can make a tremendous difference in not only the daily experience of living with cancer but also in the potential for overcoming it. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Martin L. Rossman-hailed as "one of the greatest healers of our generation" by Rachel Naomi Remen-shows cancer patients how to use imagery in specific ways that can help them in their fight against cancer. Imagery is a natural, efficient way of storing and processing information, and one that has powerful effects on both emotional states and physiology. And while imagery is not a substitute for medical, surgical, or other physical approaches to cancer therapy, scientific studies have proven that it complements and enhances those treatments in many important ways. In this first book of its kind, Rossman provides specific ways to use imaging in fighting cancer.Praise for Guided Imagery for Self-Healing: "This superb collection of imagery techniques is a landmark contribution to the emerging field of behavioral medicine." -Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., author of Minding the Body, Mending the Mind

In the spring of 1983 Terry Tempest Williams learned that her mother was dying of cancer. That same season, The Great Salt Lake began to rise to record heights, threatening the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge and the herons, owls, and snowy egrets that Williams, a poet and naturalist, had come to gauge her life by. One event was nature at its most random, the other a by-product of rogue technology: Terry's mother, and Terry herself, had been exposed to the fallout of atomic bomb tests in the 1950s. As it interweaves these narratives of dying and accommodation, Refuge transforms tragedy into a document of renewal and spiritual grace, resulting in a work that has become a classic.
