This book describes lesser-known hiking opportunities within a 30 minute drive of Interstate 80 between Auburn and Truckee California. Appropriate gear, seasons and hazards are described. The most travelled trails are noted but updated information is best obtained from land owner websites. Some areas that cannot be recommended are described. Then, 43 less-travelled hikes and cross-country routes within the scope are detailed, Driving directions and hiking distance are provided and difficulty, trail quality and scenic quality are rated. Maps are included for most hikes. Wildfires, trail re-routes and closures, change in access and other factors have impacted many hikes and new trails have opened since 2017. The book was last updated in 2020. Additional updates have been and will be posted at I80hikes.com. Another ordering option is also provided there. Amazon's reviews include one which I believe to be a troll's revenge review and completely insincere. I have asked Amazon to remove it. Judge yourself and provide an impartial review. Happy trails.
