Ivory Coast is a country located in West Africa, in the northern hemisphere, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator. It is bounded to the north by Burkina-Faso and Mali. Ivory Coast is the world's largest producer and exporter of cocoa beans and a major producer and exporter of coffee, palm oil and cashew nuts. Since 2006, oil and gas production has become a more important driver of economic activity than cocoa. Offshore oil and gas production has driven significant exports of crude oil and provided enough natural gas to fuel electricity exports to Ghana, Togo, Benin, Mali and Burkina Faso. Oil exploration by a number of consortia of private companies continues offshore.
