It is essential to incorporate the mind, body, and Spirit together to bring healing and freedom to black women.In this book Brooke asserts that Christianity, which has been given to Africans since being stolen and colonized, may not be enough for Black women.She says "We need to work on the trauma inflicted upon us by the TransAtlantic Slave Trade. We need to work on releasing the bonds and responsibilities which have been placed on us since we left the shores of Africa. The post traumatic stress disorder related to this enterprise has placed many black women in fight or flight mode." Dr. Brimm invites Black women to adopt mindfulness and yoga as a means of staying present in their experience. She encourages them to find a practice that will allow them to release the horrors of the past, while feeling at peace about the future.In this book, barriers to practicing yoga for black women are identified and addressed. Benefits related to practicing yoga are also highlighted. This book demystifies yoga and mindfulness for Black women who have traditionally followed Jesus the Christ.It celebrates the Spiritual Journey of Black women, thus far. It offers an expanded practice through yoga and mindfulness. Brooke shows how the practice of yoga can be approachable and relatable to everyday black women.The book illustrates parallels between Christianity and Yogic paths for the purpose of showing that yoga is not to be feared by Christians.
