Mornings In Florence - John Ruskin - Bog

Bag om Mornings In Florence

""Mornings in Florence"" is a collection of essays written by John Ruskin, a prominent English writer and art critic of the 19th century. The book is a reflection on Ruskin's experiences in Florence, Italy, where he spent several months studying the city's art and architecture. The essays are divided into two parts: ""The Shepherd's Tower"" and ""The Gates of Paradise."" In the first part, Ruskin explores the architecture of the city, focusing on the Campanile, or bell tower, of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. He uses the tower as a metaphor for the city itself, examining its history, culture, and people through the lens of its architecture. In the second part, Ruskin turns his attention to the doors of the Baptistery of San Giovanni, known as the ""Gates of Paradise."" He analyzes the intricate bronze reliefs on the doors, which depict scenes from the Bible, and reflects on the spiritual and moral lessons they convey. Throughout the book, Ruskin's prose is characterized by his vivid descriptions, poetic language, and deep appreciation for the beauty of art and nature. He also incorporates his own personal reflections and philosophical musings, making the book a rich and complex exploration of art, history, and human experience. There is, indeed, within the opposite cloister, an arch of entrance, plain enough. But no chapel, whatever, externally manifesting itself as worth entering. No walls, or gable, or dome, raised above the rest of the outbuildings--only two windows with traceries opening into the cloister; and one story of inconspicuous building above. You can't conceive there should be any effect of magnitude produced in the interior, however it has been vaulted or decorated. It may be pretty, but it cannot possibly look large. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
