Social relations, economic activities, and political dealings are all subject to the tenor of the environment since all forms of exploration and exploitation are exclusively operative within the gamut of environmental changeability, from preservation to degradation. In addition, the centrality of land to human endeavours has predicated a paramountcy of its discussion under the umbrella term, environmental studies. All over the world, and more importantly in the Niger Delta part of Nigeria, land is central to all sorts of human activities. Therefore, the place of land to the fragile ecosystem and the complex social system of the people cannot be understated. It is within this direction and conviction that ecowriters and environmentalists have undertaken the struggle for a properly managed natural environment.
