Story-telling characters include the poet, the theologian, the student, the musician and the landlord. The tavern was located about 20 miles from Longfellow's home in Cambridge. Longfellow wrote many lyric poems known for their musicality and often presenting stories of mythology and legend. He was among the most popular American poet of his day and had success overseas. This volume includes, the second book of song, a five-act drama, "Judas Maccabaeus," and as the third book, "A Handful of Translations Sneak PeakAll gave assent; all wished to hear, Not without many a jest and jeer, The story of a spavined steed; And even the Student with the rest Put in his pleasant little jest ...
