Bag om Toxicity Induced Changes of Cu and Pb on Anabas testudineus
The present study entitled ¿Toxicity Induced changes of Cu and Pb on the Humoral and Cellular factors on Anabas testudineus (Bloch,1792)¿ was carried out as per standard protocols to assess the magnitude of physiological, biochemical and histopathological changes on selected tissues such as, blood, liver, gill, kidney and muscle. The sublethal concentrations of copper and lead chosen for the present study was sufficient to cause marked changes in haematological, biochemical and histopathological properties of the tissues and organs on the test organism, Anabas testudineus. It is established that, the metals have caused serious bioaccumulation possibly leading to biomagnification and trophic transfer of the contaminant in the water body. The freshwater organisms especially fishes in those water bodies that receive wastes from cities, industries, pulp and paper industries, metallurgical works and agricultural fields are prone to the detrimental effects of heavy metals and hence deserves immediate and timely action for the restoration of the water bodies.
