When her father lost his voice with the disease's rapid progression, he took to scribbling notes, notes Lori wouldn't - couldn't - look at well past his death. In her head, she imagined the wisdom they contained and even dreamed about writing a book to share with the world her father's sage advice.

As she stared at the box of notes, she also thought about what she wished she could say to her dad. After all, he'd been her hero.
