Interstitial lung diseases (ILD) or pulmonary fibrosis is a group of lung conditions that involves inflammation and scarring or fibrosis of lung tissues. In this condition, it becomes difficult for the lungs to get enough oxygen. This condition results in shortness of breath and dry cough. The exact cause of ILD is unknown but several factors such as smoking, radiation treatment, certain drugs and medicines, certain connective tissue or collagen diseases, and sarcoidosis may contribute in its development. The common symptoms of ILD include bleeding in the lungs, extreme tiredness and weakness, loss of appetite, unexplained weight loss, and chest discomfort. The most common diagnostic methods used to determine ILD are pulmonary function tests such as spirometry and peak flow monitoring. Chest X-rays, blood tests, and bronchoscopy are some other tests to measure the ability of lungs to move air in and out. Treatment of ILD involves several forms of medications, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, lung transplant and surgery. Due to the overlapping distribution of malaria and HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa, Cameroon has seen malaria as one of the most important infectious disease in the country. Infectious bites are common all year round which places the entire population at risk of malaria infection. HIV-infected patients constitute one of the major at-risk groups, with infection with malaria being expectedly more severe.We then investigated the prevalence of malaria parasiteamia in people living with HIV attending the Military hospital Yaounde. We observed a low prevalence of 7%. This therefore undermines the importance of mapping out the distribution of the coinfection in the country as this will provide information which can help to put the situation under control.Despite the depletion of the human immune system caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, in line with our findings and observations, the prevalence of malaria is low in HIV positive individuals. The prevalence was not a subject of sex and age. This is an indication that all HIV patients are equally at risk of infection with malaria and preventive measures to control malaria infection in this group are a priority.

The climacteric is also defined as a process of physical and emotional transition from middle age to old age for both men and women, however, in this study we will use the meaning of climacteric as the passage of women from the reproductive phase to the non-reproductive phase, triggering a variety of symptoms. The study consists of a bibliographical survey, considering the work of a multi-professional team with women in the climacteric period, with a greater focus on the work of physiotherapists in this stage. The study clearly and objectively presents a discussion of the physiotherapeutic techniques most commonly used in climacteric women, as well as their effectiveness and forms of applicability, with the aim of preventing signs and symptoms and treating existing ones, such as urinary incontinence, sweating, hot flushes, sexual disorders, cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety, which can lead to hormonal, physical and psychological dysfunctions that can interfere with quality of life.

This research explores the optical characterization of biological tissues, distinguishing them as highly scattering (opaque) or weakly scattering (transparent). The focus is on Mueller matrix imaging (MMI), offering detailed polarization information. The goal is to extend traditional photometric methods by incorporating MMI coordinate distributions, providing exhaustive insight into the optical anisotropic component of biological tissues. Correlation and topological analyses aid in statistical and fractal diagnostics of biological crystal networks.Tasks included exploring the relationship between laser-induced phase shifts by birefringent crystals and statistical moments of MMI, differentiation of optical-anisotropic properties through correlation analysis, and identifying topological structures generating polarization singularities in scattered laser radiation.It is established relationships between phase shifts and statistical moments, introducing the degree of mutual correlation of MMI, and unveiling scenarios for topological structures' formation. Wavelet analysis of singular distributions further enables diagnosing local changes in optical and geometric structures.

Objective: To report our experience of the surgical management of thoracic endometriosis. Materials and methods This was a retrospective and prospective study which lasted 18 years (January 1994-December 2012) and included 19 patients with an average age of 32 years (19 to 49 years) operated on for thoracic endometriosis. There were 12 cases of catamenial pneumothorax, 6 cases of catamenial haemothorax and 1 case of pulmonary nodule. The patients were all nulliparous with a history of dysmenorrhoea except the one with the pulmonary nodule, 2 patients had confirmed pelvic endometriosis. Standard chest X-rays were performed systematically, bronchial fibroscopy 2 times, thoracic CT scans 6 times, and thoracoabdominal ultrasound 1 time. The lesions were located on the right in 17 cases, on the left in 1 case and bilaterally in 1 case. Results. The patients were operated on during (7 cases) or just after (11 cases) menstruation by posterolateral thoracotomy. 4 patients underwent preoperative pleural drainage for massive effusions. Plaques of diaphragmatic endometriosis were observed in 16 cases.
