When communication with machines is carried out, it is very difficult and slow-moving in magnitude when realized via keyboards, mouses and other devices. Thus, speech feed-in is an important constituent to making this communication easily accessible. Also, humans see speech as a great source of information. Therefore, persons who are not literate or have vague about computers can easily access computers by employing speech instructions. Even people with some physical disability who are not able to type or click with their hands can use their speech to operate the computer. Even people who are proficient in operating computers can speed up data entry, sending emails and other documents using the speech input methods. Furthermore, this mode of operation possesses many advantages. For example, while driving, the hands of the driver are busy steering the driving wheel and he cannot type on his mobile. In such a case speech is a good input option. GPS (Global Positioning System) is an example of a speech-based system being used. Another example is speech-enabled dialing, where the user can just ask the device to call a particular person, without dialing his number.The common and efficient means of communication among humans is through 'speech'. To process speech means to extract useful information from it, processing includes the implementation of electric signals on the acoustic pressure waves collected from human vocalization and applying mathematical analysis to it. The field of processing speech involves the natural operation of analysing speech, coding, augmentation, synthesis, and recognition. Analysis of speech is the study of its creation mechanism to make a mathematical model of physical phenomena. Speech coding aims to keep information about specific speech parameters for later retrieval. The method of refining precision and quality of speech which is noisy utilises various algorithms is recognized as speech enhancement [2]. Producing artificial human speech using coded information is known as the synthesis of speech. The method of inverse synthesis is the capability of a program or machine to classify the linguistic contents mixed up in the speech signal.

This book takes the notions of adaptivity and learning from the realm of engineering into the realm of biology and natural processes. It introduces a Hebbian-LMS algorithm, an integration of unsupervised Hebbian learning and supervised LMS learning in neural networks, as a mathematical representation of a general theory for synaptic learning in the brain, and adaptation and functional control of homeostasis in living systems. Written in a language that is able to address students and scientists with different backgrounds, this book accompanies readers on a unique journey through various homeostatic processes in living organisms, such as body temperature control and synaptic plasticity, explaining how the Hebbian-LMS algorithm can help understand them, and suggesting some open questions for future research. It also analyses cell signalling pathways from an unusual perspective, where hormones and hormone receptors are shown to be regulated via the principles of the Hebbian-LMS algorithm. It further discusses addiction and pain, and various kinds of mood disorders alike, showing how they can be modelled with the Hebbian-LMS algorithm. For the first time, the Hebbian-LMS algorithm, which has been derived from a combination of Hebbian theory from the neuroscience field and the LMS algorithm from the engineering field of adaptive signal processing, becomes a potent model for understanding how biological regulation works. Thus, this book is breaking new ground in neuroscience by providing scientists with a general theory for how nature does control synaptic learning. It then goes beyond that, showing that the same principles apply to hormone-mediated regulation of physiological processes. In turn, the book tackles in more depth the concept of learning. It covers computer simulations and strategies for training neural networks with the Hebbian-LMS algorithm, demonstrating that the resulting algorithms are able to identify relationships between unknown input patterns. It shows how this can translate in useful ideas to understand human memory and design cognitive structures. All in all, this book offers an absolutely, unique, inspiring reading for biologists, physiologists, and engineers, paving the way for future studies on what we could call the nature's secret learning algorithm.

In both the database and machine learning communities, data quality has become a serious issue which cannot be ignored. In this context, we refer to data with quality problems as ¿dirty data.¿ Clearly, for a given data mining or machine learning task, dirty data in both training and test datasets can affect the accuracy of results. Accordingly, this book analyzes the impacts of dirty data and explores effective methods for dirty data processing.Although existing data cleaning methods improve data quality dramatically, the cleaning costs are still high. If we knew how dirty data affected the accuracy of machine learning models, we could clean data selectively according to the accuracy requirements instead of cleaning all dirty data, which entails substantial costs. However, no book to date has studied the impacts of dirty data on machine learning models in terms of data quality. Filling precisely this gap, the book is intended for a broad audience ranging from researchers inthe database and machine learning communities to industry practitioners.Readers will find valuable takeaway suggestions on: model selection and data cleaning; incomplete data classification with view-based decision trees; density-based clustering for incomplete data; the feature selection method, which reduces the time costs and guarantees the accuracy of machine learning models; and cost-sensitive decision tree induction approaches under different scenarios. The Inference Engine applies fuzzy rules over the defined fuzzy sets and produces outputs based on linguistic information. The Defuzzifier, converts fuzzy values into crisp values.
