The French naval officer Joseph Rene Bellot (1826-53) took part in an Arctic voyage to find the Franklin expedition. Bellot's detailed journal was translated into English and published in two volumes in 1855. Volume 2 describes overwintering in the Arctic, exploration on land, and the eventual return to Britain.
