The Outer Banks consist of a string of sand dunes that serve to protect the main land of North Carolina from the Atlantic Ocean. Thus, making them the perfect place for wild horses to live. No one knows exactly how the horses arrived on the Outer Banks; but we do know that they are of Spanish decent.
