Neudeutsch sagt man empowern dazu.

The Footprints of Funny Feet was created because I was unhappy with the way I was being looked at from a disabled point of view. Throughout my life, I was always told that because I was disabled, I could never fit in, play sports, or have a real job. All the things I accomplished within the pages of this book should showcase that there should be no limitations or barriers placed on people with disabilities.I wanted to showcase this concept to my readers. I was never given any limitations set on me by my parents. The only limitations that were ever placed on me came from the general public that never really understood the physical disability. Because the general public only saw the palsy, they lacked the vision to see the essence of my true potential.

Social network analysis provides a meaningful lens for advancing a more nuanced understanding of the communication networks and practices that bring together policy advocates and practitioners in their day-to-day efforts to broker evidence into policymaking processes. This book advances knowledge brokerage scholarship and methodology as applied to policymaking contexts, focusing on the ways in which knowledge and research are utilized, and go on to influence policy and practice decisions across domains, including communication, health and education. There is a growing recognition that knowledge brokers - key intermediaries - have an important role in calling attention to research evidence that can facilitate the successful implementation of evidence-informed policies and practices. The chapters in this volume focus explicitly on the history of knowledge brokerage research in these contexts and the frameworks and methodologies that bridge these disparate domains. The contributors to this volume offer useful typologies of knowledge brokerage and explicate the range of causal mechanisms that enable knowledge brokers' influence on policymaking. The work included in this volume responds to this emerging interest  by comparing, assessing, and delineating social network approaches to knowledge brokerage across domains. The book is a useful resource for students and scholars of social network analysis and policymaking, including in health, communication, public policy and education policy.

Sudden death in athletes is a global problem. Although it is a relatively rare phenomenon (1/100,000 persons), when it does occur, it is often as an incomprehensible event. In fact, it strikes subjects who presumably should be much healthier than the general population. In the previous 20 years, many authors have studied this problem in an attempt to understand the causes and prevent these events, and it has been determined that, in the vast majority of cases, athletes who die suddenly have an underlying heart disease (arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, coronary anomalies, channelopathies, etc.).In most cases these diseases do not produce major symptoms and do not preclude sports activity even at the highest levels, although they do increase the incidence of sudden death. How to discover these diseases in asymptomatic athletes is a hotly debated issue. In particular, there is controversy as to whether all athletes should undergo detailed medical screening, including electrocardiogram, or whether the costs of this screening are too high in relation to the event incidence. The purpose of this book is to accurately analyze the causes of sudden death in athletes and to provide cardiologists and sports physicians with useful tips on how to identify at-risk individuals.

Despite global advancements in pediatric medicine, technologies which have become standard-of-care in high-resource settings are unavailable in low-and middle-income countries due to cost, availability, or challenges maintaining equipment. This book compiles evidence-based and expert clinical procedural adaptations in an approachable, case-based, step-by-step guide, aimed to provide educational support for healthcare providers practicing in resource-limited settings. This responds to both the high demand for this content and the importance of gathering experts across continents and pediatric disciplines. Each chapter provides both a theoretical framework and practical discussion of high-yield procedural adaptations. Leading international researchers and seasoned clinicians with expertise using these adaptations were selected by the editors as authors. Chapters include an example case with adaptation use and detailed instructions including supplies, indications, risks, and benefits. Content is grounded in current best practice recommendations and evidence-based research.  Highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, a mature understanding of pathophysiology and device design/safety is required when providing care in low-resource settings or in crisis times. In-person instruction is not always feasible. Written and virtual platforms remain critical in disseminating high-yield, practical content. This book is not a substitute for appropriate procedural training, though is easily modified to meet the educational needs of diverse learner groups. It is a valuable resource for appropriately trained practitioners practicing in accordance with local guidelines. Knowledge and fluency with pediatric procedural adaptations is critical in efforts to reduce global inequities and pediatric morbidity/mortality in low-resource settings.

It is comprised of 24 chapters focused on specific aspects of the disease. The first 2 chapters provide a bit of background on the disease, describing the anatomy and physiology of the kidney as well as the definition and epidemiology of the disease. The following 3 chapters discuss the detection, prevention and progression of the disease. The next 6 chapters describe the relationship of the disease with other conditions and most common co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. The chapters, that follow focus on the CKD associated complications and the CKD within special populations such as the elderly and minorities as well as dietary restrictions and drug dosing. The book concludes with discussion on preparation for renal replacement therapy and preemptive organ transplantation as an alternative to dialysis in the management of the advanced CKD. Written by experts in the field, Approach to Chronic Kidney Disease is a comprehensive guide for clinicians, especially primary care providers including residents and fellows in training, who take care of chronic kidney disease patients. This book analyzes how COVID-19 impacted politics and how politics shaped the response to the pandemic in Latin America, the region which has become the epicenter of the global health crisis started in China. The volume brings together studies carried out in eight countries of the region - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua and Uruguay - and show how the impacts and outcomes varied a lot across the region depending on the political processes under way in each country in the years preceding the pandemic and on the political responses adopted by each government to deal with the health crisis.   The volume is divided into four parts, each one dedicated to a specific dimension of the relation between politics and COVID-19 in Latin America. The first part is dedicated to denialism, and presents three case studies of governments that denied the importance of the health crisis: Brazil, Mexico and Nicaragua. The second part takes Uruguay and Colombia as two opposite examples of successful and failed state action against COVID-19. The third part analyzes how social movements faced the pandemic in Brazil and Chile. Finally, the fourth part analyzes how public opinion reacted to political responses to COVID-19 in four countries: Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Mexico.COVID-19's Political Challenges in Latin America will be a valuable resource for political scientists, sociologists and other social scientists interested in understanding how the pandemic affected politics and how politics affected the fight against the biggest health crisis faced by humanity in the last hundred years.

Can a story written almost 200 years ago help us understand the modern world? In Searching for Goldilocks, Dr. Matt Kresl explores the search for "e;just right"e; within and all around us. Basing his discussion on the Goldilocks Principle, a reference to the children's fairytale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Dr. Kresl focuses on how science, spirituality, and storytelling form a launching point to explore the concept of "e;just right"e; in everyday life. Through his work as a clinical pharmacist, Dr. Kresl's perspective on medicine and healthcare evolved into the journaling of his day-to-day observations as a parent, husband, and caregiver. The result is an exploration of what "e;just right"e; can mean and how words and phrases such as harmony, the sweet spot, equilibrium, or the middle way, show up in most facets of life, including: How we cope with mental illness. How statistics shape our decisions. How we find novelty and familiarity equally attractive.Searching for Goldilocks is for the curious-minded reader who desires to understand how everyday interactions reveal fundamental personal and scientific truths. Through Dr. Kresl's observations, you'll see that searching for "e;just right"e; is closer than you think.
