The Concorde made its first transatlantic crossing on September 26, 1973, and it inaugurated the world's first scheduled supersonic (SST) passenger service on January 21, 1976 with British Airways initially flying the aircraft from London to Bahrain and Air France flying it from Paris to Rio de Janeiro. The Concorde was flown on chartered flights to destinations all over the world. The Delta-wing Concorde was a technological masterpiece, cruising at 2,179 km (1,354 miles) per hour, or Mach 2.04. The flight time between London and New York was about three hours. This book "Concorde - On the Wings Of Time" chronicles the concept, design, manufacture and operations from the 1950s through the end of the SST era in the early 1900s. Included is the author's own experiences with the Concorde as a Continental Airlines aircraft maintenance technician.
