The focus of this book is to equip personnel in the hospitality trade with the laws governing the industry, so as to help them avoid fines, imprisonment and endless litigation and thus save many from defamation and potential insolvency. The pursuit of law and order has led men to sit down four times to re-order the world; the treaty of Westphalia - after the thirty years' war, the Vienna convention - after the Napoleonic wars, the Paris declaration - after World War One and San Francisco - after World War Two. Also, in the long march of mankind from the cave to the computer, law has played a central role in times of chaos - to bring stability, and also in times of stability - to bring progress. Law exists to bring order in daily activities and behaviour. As such the search to fashion out a body of law to regulate activities and define what is permissible and forbidden cannot be overemphasized.Law itself consists of a series of rules regulating behaviour and reflecting to some extent, the ideas and preoccupations of the society within which it functions. Law is the element, which binds communities and business entities like hotels and guest houses together in their adherence to recognized values and standards. To help increase global tourism receipts, the hospitality industry must continuously instil in their daily operations, canons and laws of the trade. Lucidly, unambiguously and with no equivocation the author has laid out all the laws in the hospitality industry in clear terms, including the use of diagrams to create a mind-map for pictorial illustrations and to offer a deeper understanding. The law, rights and liabilities in the hospitality industry have been covered under subject themes like: contracts, misrepresentation and procedure for the acquisition of property, food regulation, employment and the doctrine of respondeat superior. It also considers perceived potential and actual or legally recognized negligence at the workplace and how to avoid them. There is also the adherence to health and safety laws, which every employer and employee in the industry must abide by. Case histories and questions on the law of contract have been added as a bonus package. In the light of the aforementioned areas covered by the scope of this book, proprietors in the hospitality industry, managers, receptionists, housekeepers, stewards, maintenance and those who handle health and safety issues in hotels, guesthouses, apartments and all forms of commercial accommodation will find this book worth purchasing and reading. Tour operators and travel agents will also find this book useful; some pages have been devoted to the law of agency; which specifically delves into the law regarding tour operations and travel agency. Business owners and organizations will find reading of this book quite refreshing. Provisions of what to consider when setting up a limited liability, private and public companies have all been discussed here. Students in the hospitality industry will also see this book as an important resource material; it offers clear and simple definitions to terminologies in the field as well as case histories and questions to help them prepare for examinations. May the reading of this book help to instil the respect, practice and knowledge of law that upholds the way in the industry. May it make ignorance of the law of the hospitality industry a thing of the past. Finally, for the curious mind that craves law and order, it certainly will rekindle your reading pleasure. The book "LAW GUIDE FOR THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY" remains a priority and a must read for operators in the hospitality industry and all those who aim to grow and own a business.

This book combines research on technology-driven and social-driven innovation in tourism destinations and the multifaceted concept of sustainability, providing an integrative understanding of the nexus between smartness and sustainability within destinations. It engages theoretically and empirically with the research question of how, and to what extent, smart technologies drive tourism innovation focussed on sustainability. Although innovation and technology are widely considered the way to sustainable tourism growth, further studies need to size the role of technology and critically address modalities, challenges, opportunities and pitfalls of technology deployment in rebalancing tourism disequilibria within local systems. Local, national, and supranational policymakers¿ attention to technology investments, the widening technological frontiers, and the enthusiasm for new technological opportunities to build, manage, and market destinations suggest the relevance of this research agenda. This book provides scholars, postgraduate students, and practitioners with conceptual and empirical insights into smart solutions and innovative destination models for multi-stakeholder engagement to manage and address tourism impacts and imbalances. The book outlines scenarios of sustainability-oriented innovation, encompassing and intertwining technological, social, human, and cultural co-drivers as the necessary conditions for smart technologies to enhance sustainable destinations effectively and improve human wellbeing and societal development.
This book provides a comprehensive collection of new insights into traditional paradigms, approaches, and methods, as well as more recent developments in issues related to family businesses in tourism and hospitality. The aim of the chapters is to verify whether, in the tourism industry, the ¿family business model¿ is an important development opportunity and, in particular, if it is an innovation driver, for this industry development. In this context, the authors contribute chapters from a diverse set of countries to investigate personal and family needs and preferences alongside the relationship between family business model, growth and profit maximization, and the development of tourism businesses through innovation drivers. SME competency, the impact of COVID-19 on performance and marketing, and policy improvements are also discussed in this volume.
Of interest to both academics and practitioners, Impact of Industry 4.0 on Sustainable Tourism reveals patterns and projections to provide a discourse on the progression of disruptive and futuristic technologies in the field of sustainable tourism research and practice.

Concorde was the first supersonic passenger-carrying commercial airplane. It was built jointly by Great Britain and France. The Concorde made its first transatlantic crossing on September 26, 1973, and it inaugurated the world's first scheduled supersonic (SST) passenger service on January 21, 1976 with British Airways initially flying the aircraft from London to Bahrain and Air France flying it from Paris to Rio de Janeiro. The Concorde was flown on chartered flights to destinations all over the world. The Delta-wing Concorde was a technological masterpiece, cruising at 2,179 km (1,354 miles) per hour, or Mach 2.04. The flight time between London and New York was about three hours. This book "Concorde - On the Wings Of Time" chronicles the concept, design, manufacture and operations from the 1950s through the end of the SST era in the early 1900s. Included is the author's own experiences with the Concorde as a Continental Airlines aircraft maintenance technician.

The geotourism industry has grown rapidly in recent years. This book introduces the geotourism industry, its attractions, activities and developments, in selected countries of the Middle East. A number of publications and studies have investigated the nature and scope of the phenomenon of geotourism (tourism which starts from geology) and geotourists worldwide. However, despite the breadth of these studies, few publications have investigated the phenomena in the Middle Eastern countries.Consequently, this book seeks to shed light on the different aspects of geotourism and geo-diversity in the Middle East and provides a number of case studies from this region. It assists in bridging the lacuna in the tourism and geology literature and helps planners, marketers, managers, scholars and researchers to enhance their knowledge about such issues. It outlines opportunities for, as well as barriers to, geotourism development in the Middle East as well as providing recommendations for the advancement of geotourism in the region.

When Katherine Miller was first asked to train chefs to be advocates, she thought the idea was ludicrous. This was a group known for short tempers and tattoos, not for saving the world. But she quickly learned that chefs and other leaders in the restaurant industry are some of the most powerful forces for change in our troubled food system. Chefs are leading hunger relief efforts, supporting local farmers, fighting food waste, confronting racism and sexism in the industry, and much more. In At the Table, Miller presents the essential techniques she developed for the James Beard Foundation's Chefs Boot Camp for Policy and Change. Readers will learn how to focus their philanthropic efforts; pinpoint their audience and develop their argument; recruit allies and support action; and maybe most importantly, grab people's attention in a crowded media landscape. You don't have to be a celebrity chef to change the food system; you just need the will and the tools in this unique guide.
This book provides state-of-the-art descriptions of smart service innovations in the industry, supported by novel scientific approaches. It gathers findings and insights presented at the fourth Smart Services Summit, held in Zurich, Switzerland, in October 2021, which primarily focused on how smart services have enabled companies to adapt during and to the COVID-19 pandemic. The book includes examples of remote and collaborative working that actively involve customers in service processes, requiring a change in mindset for more traditional firms. Moreover, it explores how services can be delivered faster and more affordable with the aid of new technologies and in collaboration with the customers, leading to new value propositions and business models and thus an evolution of smart services. Given its scope, the book offers an essential guide for practitioners and advanced students alike.

The book is highly recommended for tourism and aviation researchers, policy makers, industry practitioners, and graduate students. This book is a collection of selected papers from the 10th International Conference on Tourism and Hospitality between China and Spain (www.china-spain.org).
