The State of Tamil Nadu has a hoary antiquity. Though early sangam classics throw historical references, we pass to recorded history only from the Pallavas. The southern states of India were under the hegemony of the Cholas, the Cheras and the Pandyas for centuries. The Pallavas held supremacy from about the second quarter of the fourth century A.D. They were the originators of the famous Dravidian style of temple architecture. The last Pallava ruler was Aparajita, in whose reign the later Cholas under Vijayalaya and Aditya asserted themselves by about the 10th century. At the end of the 11th century, Tamil Nadu was ruled by several dynasties like the Chalukyas, Cholas and Pandyas. For godt 100 år siden - helt nøjagtigt 1. april 1904 - overtog Julius Ørum-Petersen et lille smedeværksted i Herning fra smedemester J. Hansen. Her blev grunden lagt til J. Ørum Petersens Karosserifabrik, som udviklede sig til - i perioder - at blive Danmarks største producent af buskarrosserier. Siden sin barndom har Michael Sinding, der har været bibliotekar i Nærum, været fascineret af busserne fra Herning, og han havde i lang tid haft lyst til at skildre virksomhedens historie og produktion. Muligheden opstod, da der i 2003 dukkede en større samling fotografier op. Dette materiale er nu samlet i en bog og er hermed tilgængeligt for en større kreds. Busserne fra Ørum-P var vidt berømte over det ganske land. Mottoet, Kvalitet, skønhed og styrke, gjorde man alt for at leve op til. Man præsterede det ypperste og var førende inden for busdesign. Tag med på en spændende rejse gennem et hjørne af dansk bilhistorie, som i mere end 200 illustrationer præsenterer den mangfoldighed af karrosserier, som J. Ørum-Petersens Karosserifabrik frembragte i de i knap 60 år, der blev bygget busser i Herning.

I Stautrup sydvest for Aarhus grundlagde Rasmus Skaarup i 1906 et karetmagerværksted, der over årene udviklede sig til Stautrup Karosserifabrik. Oprindeligt var det reparation og bygning af hestekøretøjer, som værkstedet beskæftigede sig med, men omkring 1920 blev det fremstillingen af karrosserier til busser, vare- og lastvogne, der dominerede produktionen. I årene herefter blev fabrikken løbende udvidet, men besættelsen i 1940 satte en stopper for udviklingen. I årene efter 1945 kom der igen gang i hjulene, og det var for det meste busser, fabrikken herefter beskæftigede sig med at bygge. I 1950'erne blev fabrikken igen udvidet, og flere nye produktionsmetoder holdt sit indtog. Op gennem 1960'erne blev konkurrencen skærpet for produktion af buskarrosserier, men Stautrup Karosserifabrik holdt skansen ved at begynde at bygge bogbusser, ligesom man optog en nicheproduktion med ombygning af kassevogne til minibusser. Udover opbyggervirksomheden har fabrikken også udført reparationsarbejder og klargøring af busser. I 1990'erne blev konkurrencen hårdere og hårdere, og den lille virksomhed havde ingen muligheder for at rationalisere produktionen yderligere. Og i efteråret 2002 besluttede Rasmus Skaarups efterkommere at lukke virksomheden. Hvor virksomheden i Stautrup lå, er der i dag (2015) bygget rækkehuse og intet afslører, at der i næsten 100 år lå en karrosserifabrik på stedet.
