In this book, an interplay unfolds between Candida Höfer's 2023 photographs of the Semper Oper and selected pictures from Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, offering both deep insights into Höfer's artistic practice and a reflection on the artistic representation of space.At once artist's book and exhibition catalogue, this publication is both an exploration of Candida Höfer's artistic practice and the contexts in which this practice takes place. In 2023, Höfer photographs in Dresden's Semperoper: spaces of rehearsal, storage, performance, strolling and working in the opera house become a lens that reflects the view of the context of Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in the Kupferstich-Kabinett as a place of research, collecting, archiving, exhibiting and working. "Katherine Carver pursued Abandoned: Chronicling the Journeys of Once Forsaken Dogs for over a decade. She was inspired to examine the lives of shelter and rescue dogs after learning that Biscuit, a Shetland Sheepdog she and her husband adopted, had been abandoned on a rural highway. Biscuit's transition from a sickly, emaciated shell to a beloved family member inspired Carver to examine the profound transformation abandoned dogs experience when given a second chance. In this book, Carver has documented similar transitions for approximately sixty abandoned dogs. She presents poignant fine art photographs of her subjects as they navigate shelter and rescue networks on a quest for a permanent home. The photographs capture the salient emotion, spirit, and dignity of each dog, despite the dog's circumstances. Dogs of all breeds, sizes, ages, temperaments, and backgrounds are included in the book. Carver also includes narratives based on interviews with rescue personnel and adopters to provide additional context to each dog's journey. Carver initially met and photographed each dog in a shelter or rescue environment shortly after his or her abandonment. She then photographed each dog again, approximately a year after being adopted into a permanent home. "From Harm to Healing combines photography and narrative to explore the stories of eight monkeys rescued from traumatic and abusive situations and rehomed to one of the largest animal sanctuaries in the United States, the Born Free Primate Sanctuary. With an honest and open approach to the work of sanctuaries, the book seeks to consider the complexities and challenges of life after rescue. It posits the work of sanctuaries not simply as a "happily ever after" for victims of the pet trade, vivisection, and zoos, but as a journey towards recovery which may take years, or even decades. Wild animals such as monkeys remain caged even in sanctuaries of the absolute highest standards. Understanding this, the book explores the ethical obligations and challenges faced by the staff, as well as the monkeys and their individual obstacles, that must be overcome in the journey to recovery. Ultimately, From Harm to Healing seeks to share the individual tales of the monkeys from their perspective and makes the case that, while sanctuaries are vital to protect animals from further harm, they are not the answer to end animal suffering. Indeed, the only way in which we can end the suffering of exploited wild animals is to tackle the source head on. This study started in February, 2013 at the Collider-Accelerator Department of BNL. During the study, the technique of independent component analysis (ICA) was first introduced to RHIC for a systematic estimation of RHIC BPM noise performance and turn-by-turn (TBT) beam position monitor (BPM) data based optics measure- ment. The beta-beat response matrix based global correction scheme and the method of arc beta-beat correction using horizontal closed orbit at sextupoles were developed for RHIC. These techniques were successfully demonstrated in two beam experiments with a total of 4 hours' beam time. In the meantime, various software packages were developed to facilitate the beam experiments and future studies.

Critical Geography examines the power structures, inequality, and the dominant ideologies that shape physical space. By critically analyzing these forces, the publication stimulates conversations about social justice, environmental sustainability, and transformative change. The artistic practices featured in the book shed light on systemic oppression, violence, and pressing environmental issues, and encompass a wide range of image-based practices that make inequality visible in both colonial and postcolonial contexts, including mapping, social media, and technology. FOTOFEST is a Houston-based contemporary arts organization co-founded by photojournalists Frederick Baldwin and Wendy Watriss. The use of photography or related media to examine social, cultural, and political histories as well as contemporary life is central to FotoFest's mission.
