Julia Schewalie - Julia Schewalie - Bog

Bag om Julia Schewalie

Julia Schewalie (*1988) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 2009 to 2015. Coming from landscape painting, Julia Schewalie turned to a serial production process, in which she works with many different elements from different materials but through an additive technique produces a uniformity that has its own particular formal language, whereby viewers discover the differences between the individual works. As diverse as her materials are, they operate according to the same mechanism; they interact in persistently new ways with the light that falls on them, and thus their presence in a given space changes. A change in perspective sometimes changes everything. This is a mesmerizing aspect of the works of Julia Schewalie, which have an inherently ephemeral and fleeting quality often juxta- posed with a perplexingly unusual use of materials. The monochrome works generate contemplative situations, and tempt viewers with their haptically compelling surfaces while eluding anyone's immediate grasp.  Beyond Black is the first comprehensive monograph on the artist's work to be published here by Verlag Kettler.
